Aquaculture Production in Turkey Continues to Increase

Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI) has announced aquaculture statistics for 2017.
According to the report, the production of fish (aquaculture and fishing) increased in 2017 by 7.2 percent compared to the previous year and reached 630,820 tons. 42.8 percent of the total production is marine fish, 8.3 percent is other marine products, 5.1 percent is inland aquatic products and 43.8 percent is aquaculture.
Fishing production increased by 5.7 percent and aquaculture production increased by 9.1 percent in the mentioned period. According to this report, production amounts calculated fishing production as 354,318 tons and aquaculture production as 276,502 tons. Fishing production from the sea increased by 6.9 percent compared to the previous year, while fresh water fishing production decreased by 5.1 percent.
And in the same report, the numbers shows that 37.6 percent of aquaculture production happened in fresh waters and 62.40 percent in the marine.
Turkey’s average fish consumption per capita increased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous year.
