Aquaculture Customers Attend 2018 USSEC Aqua Feed Nutrition Workshop in Philippines

USSEC Southeast Asia held its 2018 USSEC Aqua Feed Nutrition Workshop in Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, Pasig City, Philippines on February 19 with the objective of sharing the latest information on aqua feed nutrition to Philippine aqua feed nutritionists and formulators and to increase the use and inclusion of U.S. soybean meal and other U.S. Soy products in least cost soy-optimized aqua feed formulations for fish and shrimp.
USSEC feedmill and nutrition consultant Mark Newman presented “Strategies to Reduce Phosphorus in Effluent of Fish Farms,” “Use of Feeding Stimulants in Aqua Feeds,” and “Important Aspects of Digestion that Affect Aquafeed Formulation” to assist aqua feed nutritionists and formulators in formulating their aqua diets to be more efficient and cost effective on farms.
Anwar Hasan of Biomin Singapore presented "Shifting Fish Meal to Plant Based Protein in Aqua Feeds: Challenges & Opportunities" to help aqua feed nutritionists and formulators choose the right plant-based protein source ingredients in formulating their aqua diets with less fish meal or zero fish meal.
USSEC Philippines Technical Manager-Aquaculture Levy Loreto L. Manalac introduced U.S. Soy in aquaculture plans and programs in SE Asia and the Philippines for FY2018.
During a break, AMCI Vet Animal Nutrition demonstrated how to do a rapid mycotoxin testing with water extraction using the available Agra Strip Mycotoxin Watex Test Kits.
The workshop was attended by 30 aqua nutritionists, formulators, feedmill staff, sales persons and managers from different aquaculture feedmills in Philippines and feed additive companies.
