USSEC Provides Technical Service in Nutrition and Management to Livestock and Poultry Producers in Nicaragua

USSEC recently provided technical service in nutrition and management to Nicaraguan livestock and poultry producers.  Consultant Carlos Campabadal traveled to Nicaragua to work with livestock and poultry producers, as well as to present a conference on the feeding of growing pullets to more than 60 producers and technicians.

Mr. Campabadal visited a dairy and beef operation, two swine farms, a laying hen operation and a feed mill.  At the dairy cattle farm, he recommended using a dairy feed substituting a mixture of poultry litter and molasses.  He made many management recommendations at the swine farm, such as environmental control; vaccination programs; construction; animal welfare; the use of medicated feeds; and other nutrition-related topics.  At the laying hen operation, USSEC’s recommendations were related to eggshell quality; low body weight at sexual maturity; calcium quality; and the analysis of calcium carbonate for magnesium content and solubility.  Mr. Campabadal reviewed and made changes to over 50 diets at the feed mill, in addition to recommending swine and poultry diet formulations that use digestible amino acids supplied by the protein of U.S. soybean meal.
