USSEC Sponsors, Participates in 2014 U.S., Middle East & Africa Grain Trade Forum in Qatar

USSEC sponsored and participated in the 2014 U.S., Middle East & Africa Grain Trade Forum held in Doha, Qatar.  The conference took place from January 27-29 at the Grand Hyatt Doha.  Approximately 125 industry representatives from 30 countries in the MENA region attended this annual forum.

USSEC consultant Jay O’Neil, Senior Agricultural Economist at the International Grains Program at Kansas State University, gave a presentation titled “U.S. and World Soybean Supply & Demand.”  Mr. O’Neil talked about the world’s largest producers and exporters of wheat, corn and soybeans, with a focus on the soybean market.  He talked about U.S. production, exports and usage of soybeans, comparing the U.S. to other markets.  Mr. O’Neil also lectured about world soybean production vs. usage, discussing global soybean consumption from 2000-2013 and the consumption trend through 2023-2024.
USSEC representatives included Mousa Wakileh, USSEC Regional Commercial, Technical & Marketing Director; Dana Johnson, USSEC Senior Strategy & Program Advisor; Salah Taher, USSEC Aquaculture Coordinator-Egypt; Scott Singlestead, United Soybean Board (USB) Director; and Tom Rafferty, American Soybean Association (ASA) Director.
