USSEC Recognizes Minnesota’s Contribution To International Marketing Efforts

USSEC staff attended the 2013 Minnesota Ag EXPO in Mankato to express the organization’s appreciation of Minnesota’s contribution to international marketing efforts. Randy Mann, Chairman of the Board, USSEC, and ASA Vice-President and Secretary of the Board from Kentucky; Jim Sutter, CEO; Mark Andersen, Director of Customer Relations; and Greg Olwig, Marketing Manager, attended the event.
The Minnesota Ag EXPO is a joint event put on by the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA) and the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA) featuring research information, industry speakers and a trade show as well as delegate sessions for each organization where policy direction is set.
About the event, Greg Olwig says, “Minnesota soybean farmers greatly contribute to USSEC’s marketing efforts in Southeast Asia.  We see this in Indonesia, as they will surpass Japan to become the third largest export customer of U.S. soybeans behind China and Mexico.”
The MSGA provides funding to USSEC for initiatives in Indonesia and Vietnam, such as:

  • Providing trade service and technology transfer
  • Gathering marketing intelligence to develop initiatives and activities that will increase the importation and use of US soy.
  • Developing new food trade channels to increase the volume and use of US soy
  • Providing advanced nutrition & feed formulation service
  • Arranging price and risk management programs
  • Organizing training short courses to the U.S. for aqua and livestock feed demonstrations, as well as hatchery and animal husbandry training
  • Promoting U.S. centric financing programs

An estimated 1,000 farmers, industry representatives and agricultural leaders took part in the EXPO which was held January 27-29, 2013 at the Verizon Wireless Civic Center in Mankato.
