USSEC recently provided trade service to feed, poultry and livestock producers in the Dominican Republic. USSEC consultants Gerardo Luna and Pedro Lora visited several customers individually in Santo Domingo and Santiago, all representative of their respective sector such as feed manufacturers, commercial and integrated; and resellers of inputs, hog and poultry producers. They also participated in meetings with key trading firms and the United States Grains Council (USGC) to discuss imports executed in FY15 and their outlook on market needs and opinions.
During these visits, the range of topics discussed included: soybeans and soybean product market trends; key factors affecting their business (recent and past) and their outlook for the next six months; and actual/future plans in means of product lines and exposure/interest of the sustainability message – certification of U.S. soybeans and products. The consultants obtained feedback from this market about topics to be included in a seminar that will be presented in July by USSEC in the Dominican Republic. They also proposed pertinent activities for FY16 for these customers such as workshops on family businesses and strategic planning, among other topics. Moreover, some customers were interested in learning more on the upcoming Mexican Pet Food Forum in which USSEC will participate in June.
