USSEC Member Receives First USDA Non-GMO Certification

USSEC member SunOpta announced on May 18 that its Hope, Minnesota facility is the first food manufacturing facility in the United States to receive U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Process Verified Program (PVP) verification for Non-Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO)/Non-Genetically Engineered (GE) products.
SunOpta Inc. is a global company focused on organic, non-GMO and specialty foods. The company specializes in the sourcing, processing and packaging of organic and non-GMO food products, integrated from seed through packaged products; with a focus on strategic vertically integrated business models. Its organic and non-GMO food operations revolve around value-added grain, seed, fruit and vegetable based product offerings, supported by a global sourcing and supply infrastructure.
The Hope facility will produce PVP verified Non-GE/GMO food-grade soybeans and corn. SunOpta’s soybeans and corn will be the first produced in the U.S. to have the full auditing and verification of the USDA. The program makes it possible for SunOpta to label its food-grade soybeans and corn as non-GMO/GE.
