Technical servicing for improvement of existing In Pond Raceway System (IPRS) farms in northern Vietnam

Hai Phong, Phu Ly, Vietnam

This travel is to assess and continue the approach to provide technical support to improve the use of In Pond Raceway System (IPRS) technology production in northern Vietnam, following an earlier travel visiting the same area. USSEC is seen as the main organization behind the uptake of IPRS, but many farmers are still not using the full IPRS technology package and/or fully understanding the principles of IPRS. This leads to farmer using "IPRS-like" operations that often do not perform well, and when this happens they tend to blame the technology and not themselves.

The USSEC Technical Manager visits existing farms to evaluate if the farms are truly IPRS and provide technical advice, or if "IPRS-like" whether they can be upgraded to IPRS and may quality for technical servicing, or if they are not, and cannot be upgraded to full IPRS - and will no longer require any attention from USSEC. Well-run IPRS will encourage the use of high-quality, sustainable feeds that favor US Soy inclusion. Specifically this travel will assess if the "IPRS-like" farms have successfully upgraded their approach to the full IPRS technology package.
