USSEC recently provided trade service to a soybean oil refinery in Guatemala. Consultant Pedro Gonzalez conducted a training session with the refinery’s sales force comprised of sales supervisors, merchandising supervisors, promoters and the national sales manager. Mr. Gonzalez explained the uses and healthy properties of soybean oil in comparison with other edible oils, as well as providing selling points for this oil. This refinery is currently promoting a brand of 100% pure soybean oil and, in the past fiscal year, conducted a media campaign in conjunction with USSEC which resulted in excellent sales. Mr. Gonzalez met with the refinery’s national sales manager to make plans for the continuation of this promotional campaign which positions the oil brand as a high quality product. The consultant also participated in a meeting between the refinery and World Food Program of United Nations to propose the use of its soybean oil in their Central American program. Finally, Mr. Gonzalez met with the refinery’s production and quality control staff to discuss optimization in the soybean oil refining process and analytical methods for determining the quality of the oil.
