USSEC Southeast Asia aquaculture cooperator, United KMK Company, received an award from Myanmar’s President Thein Sein for their 2014 work in the development of that country’s seafood industry.
United KMK Co. Ltd has been working with Asia sea bass for the past seven years. Prior to working with USSEC, they used trash fish to feed their production fish. In 2012, United KMK began receiving technical support from USSEC and introduced the use of formulated diets. USSEC started the training with extra interregional trips, repeated seminars and in-house training for United KMK staff. Despite facing many challenges from the onset, the company’s willingness to improve the marine fish sector in Myanmar and technical assistance from USSEC, have helped it to successfully produce from fry to table fish through the use of formulated diets.
United KMK’s work has helped get the Myanmar marine fish farming sector to the next level. Because sea bass are carnivorous or piscivorous fish, it is important to train them to accept pelleted feeds from an early age.
