USSEC Conducts On-Site Consultations Reviewing Soy-Based Aqua Feed Practices in Korea

USSEC Korea recently conducted on-site consultations to review the soy-based feed practices of flounder growers in the Uljin and Youngduk, Gyeongsangbuk-do provinces.  These visits focused on the use of feeding methods to reduce digestive disorders and waste derived from overfeeding.  USSEC recommended that the amount of feed offered to fishes should be 10-20% less than what was previously given; local growers had been feeding at satiation level to bring fishes to market size as soon as possible.

USSEC is preparing for an August 14th roundtable in Korea focusing on waste and digestive disorders brought on by overfeeding.  USSEC’s agenda will also provide a session to educate growers on the benefits of using soybean meal and/or soy protein concentrate as fish meal alternatives in terms of sustainable feed supply and stable feed prices.
