Soy Food Crop Update: August 2025

August 25, 2025

Week 2:

Southern Wisconsin, Northern Illinois:

Soybean fields throughout southern Wisconsin are progressing through the late reproductive stages, with the majority of acres currently at R5 (beginning seed) to R6 (full seed). Pod fill is advancing steadily, supported by favorable temperatures and generally healthy canopy conditions. The 2025 soybean crop is overall in good to excellent condition, with early-planted fields demonstrating great yield potential and later-planted acres showing respectable prospects, contingent on cooperative August weather. Recent periods of warm days coupled with mild nighttime temperatures have accelerated crop maturity, while sufficient soil moisture has sustained pod development. This past weekend, much of southern Wisconsin benefited from widespread rainfall, totaling 1.5 to 3.5 inches across most areas. This timely precipitation will be critical for supporting seed fill over the next two weeks, as moisture availability will play a significant role in determining final seed size and weight. Southern Wisconsin soybeans remain well-positioned for a strong finish if favorable August weather patterns continue. Timely rainfall and moderate temperatures will be essential to securing the region’s yield potential and maintaining quality through the pod fill period.
