Bangladesh’s Soy Processing Industry and Soybean Meal Importers Pledge to Purchase Over $1.25 Billion of U.S. Soybean and Soybean Meal in Landmark Agreement

November 4, 2025

Move calls for nearly 2.5x more U.S. Soy purchases than ever before, reducing trade deficit while strengthening the protein sector.

November 4, 2025 | Dhaka, Bangladesh: Leading soy value chain companies from Bangladesh, Meghna Group of Industries, City Group, Delta Agrofood Industries Ltd., Mahbub Group, and KGS Group, have signed letters of intent to increase their purchases of U.S. soy over the next 12 months. With U.S. soybeans being a critical part of the feed mix for poultry and aquaculture producers, this step sets the stage for building a resilient, reliable, and high-quality supply chain for Bangladesh.

Under the agreement, Bangladesh’s processors and soybean meal importers have pledged to purchase soybeans and soybean meal valued at $1.25 billion USD. Additionally, the agreement focuses on joint efforts towards sustainable sourcing and reducing environmental impact through the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP). USSEC and the industry also commit to collaborating on market development and boosting Bangladesh’s protein consumption through USSEC’s signature Right to Protein campaign.

Commenting on the new alliance, MD. Taslim Shariar, Deputy General Manager of Meghna Group of Industries, added, “This is a milestone for Bangladesh and its crushing industries. The more we crush, the more we will achieve food security. It also helps with the rapid growth of the poultry and feed sectors, while supporting our edible oil industry. Bangladesh and U.S. soy grow together, building a legacy of economic resilience, industrial growth, and nutritional excellence for generations to come.”

Bangladesh and the U.S. – A strategic alliance

USDA reports that in 2024, U.S. soybeans topped the charts as the number 1 agricultural export to Bangladesh, valued at $350 million. Bangladesh is also the strongest market for U.S. soybeans in South Asia, with significant growth in its imports of U.S. soybean meal – up 650% compared to the same time last year1. Conversely, imports from Bangladesh to the U.S. were valued at US$8.78 billion during 20242, signaling a robust trade partnership between the two nations.

“Bangladesh’s soy value chain has signed a historic agreement which opens new opportunities for partnership between Bangladesh’s industries and U.S. Soy,” added USSEC CEO Jim Sutter. “Our U.S. soybeans are playing an integral role in the world’s food systems, providing nutrition and food security across borders.”

Proven value

Bangladesh’s customers have long recognized the benefits of U.S. soybeans compared to soy from other origins. Commenting on his experience as a U.S. soy customer, Amirul Haque, Managing Director of Delta Agrofood, added,” The quality of U.S. soybeans is also ‘far better’ than other countries.”

In addition to being verified sustainable, U.S. soy also has higher digestibility, lower damage, and a superior nutritional profile, translating to better animal performance and economic gains. For over 30 years, USSEC’s efforts in Bangladesh have centered on knowledge and technology transfer initiatives such as the Soy Excellence Center, the In-pond Raceway System (IPRS), and the International Aquaculture Feed Formulation Database (IAFFD).

This new chapter for U.S. soy and Bangladesh’s industries marks a new beginning for enhanced trade, innovation, and accelerating Bangladesh’s protein sector.
