Soy Food Crop Update: October 2025

October 23, 2025

Michigan:

Soybean harvest started the last 2 weeks of September and has progressed fast without much rain slowing harvest.  Commercial Soybean Harvest is around 70-75% completed.  Michigan Ag Commodities (MAC) is probably at 85% DG SB harvested vs IP soybean crop to date has been very dry with some beans in the 10’s for moisture. Recent rains have allowed this moisture to recover a bit with moisture 11-12% after the 1″ rain. Soil conditions continue to be abnormally dry.  The State after a wet spring has for the most part been under drought conditions most of the summer Areas that got August / September rains the beans podded up well and put on Bonus Beans at the top.  The areas that didn’t get the late rains suffered. I have seen FG bean yields from the 30b/a up to 80 b/a. Overall, they have been pretty dry running from 10% up to 15-16 depending mostly on variety type and maturity for the variety.

Yields average will probably average 55 – 60 bu. Not the best we have seen but considering the lack of rain for most of the summer not too bad.

Beans with unstable protein are on the low end this year at 40 – 41% more stable proteins held 42-43%.

Seed coat quality will be an issue in the very dry beans. Might make for more splitting and screen out during processing.
