USSEC Provides Technical Service to Poultry and Swine Producers in Trinidad and Tobago

USSEC recently provided technical services to poultry and swine producers in Trinidad and Tobago.  These activities focused on providing technical service to farmers involved in the production of pigs and poultry production.  Farms visited were identified by USSEC client National Flour Mill Limited and the Department of Agriculture of the Tobago House of Assembly.  Staff from National Flour Mill Limited toured with USSEC in Trinidad and also joined USSEC and officers from the Department of Agriculture of the Tobago House of Assembly to tour farms in Tobago.

Two farms and one feed distribution entity were visited in Trinidad and eight farms entities were toured in Tobago.  During these visits, USSEC provided technical service on Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea, standards for slaughter facilities, how to achieve better feed conversions, the relationship between temperature regulation, birdhouse temperatures and feed conversion ratios and other topics.  Feedback was also gathered on the implementation of USSEC recommendations imparted in seminars and the field visit serviced by USSEC.
Because poultry demand in the English Speaking Caribbean (ESC) is increasing, these visits represent an opportunity to increase the exports of U.S. soybean meal in that region.
