USSEC India participated in its third feed activity in November. USSEC Director – India Animal Feed, Aquaculture and Soy Meal Program Dr. P.E. Vijay Anand and USSEC India aquaculture consultant Mr. R. Umakanth attended Agrotech 2014, which was held November 22-25 in Chandigarh. The conference was conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The feed sector was represented by prominent companies such as Godrej-Tyson, VH Group, Suguna, Cargill, and Anmol Feeds, among others.
Dr. Anand noted that USSEC’s participation in and sponsorship of this event helps the organization move toward expected qualitative outcomes such as providing a voice for future policy, emphasizing growth, gathering the industry pulse, making USSEC known to a larger audience, promoting knowledge, and spelling out USSEC’s objectives to the Indian industry.
Some of USSEC’s actions toward these qualitative outcomes that Dr. Anand noted were: building relationships with CII, which interfaces between industry and India’s government; attending the management committee meeting of the Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers Association (CLFMA) and making a presentation on biotech imports of corn and soy; participating in the International Animal Husbandry Conference covering all livestock sectors in India; networking with India’s government, industry and CII officials to discuss USSEC’s objectives and work in India; sponsoring the distribution of a USSEC leaflet which was given to about 500 participants in five parallel conference sessions; chairing and moderating one of the animal husbandry sessions; and making a presentation on the path forward for blue revolution in India.
