USSEC Hosts Tilapia Seminar in Myanmar

USSEC recently hosted a seminar on tilapia culture technologies and Filipino pond farming for fish farmers in Mandalay, Myanmar. May Myat Noe Lwin, USSEC Myanmar aquaculture coordinator, coordinated representatives from the Myanmar Fisheries Federation to attend the meeting. Their presentation covered tilapia pond culture practices and Filipino pond farming recommendations to help farmers improve their production and competiveness.
In addition, Levy Loreto Manalac, USSEC Philippines aquaculture technical manager, discussed important factors for successful tilapia pond culture, including:

  • Site selection
  • Pond preparation
  • Tilapia fry/fingerling selection
  • Water quality management
  • Feeding management using extruded floating feeds
  • Balance of business and sustainable production management
