Northern Vietnam IPRS Farms Receive Technical Assistance

USSEC recently provided technical assistance to in pond raceway system (IPRS) farms in northern Vietnam. Animal and aquaculture producers often lack an understanding of how feed nutrient components in U.S. soybean meal can maximize feed conversion ratios and USSEC sought to follow up on feeding demonstration of grass carp in Golden Standard IPRS and provide technical support to IPRS farms.
Dr. Bui Ngoc Thanh, USSEC - Northern Vietnam Aquaculture Contractor, attended the USSEC Global In – Pond Raceway Learning Mission from August 19 to 23 and visited the northern provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Ha Nam, Hai Duong, and Hai Phong.
Dr. Thanh met with customers to discuss the feeding demonstration of grass carp in the Golden Standard IPRS and to introduce the new version of IPRS 2.0, which focuses on key changes to be applied when possible.
The consultant also visited five IPRS farms in the northern provinces to observe the current situation and suggest improvements to the system. He explained to farms with ongoing constructing and to new farms about design minimums that must be available for the system such as the density of fish that should be stocked to optimize benefits and expenses. Dr. Thanh also made connections between feedmills and IPRS farms.
IPRS is advanced aquaculture technology; however, when it is adopted incorrectly, fish farmers struggle to succeed. Thus, providing technical support for those farms is a priority for USSEC and local feedmills. The success of those farms will be an important step to promote and develop IPRS in Northern Vietnam.
