USSEC Gives Aquaculture Feeding Demonstrations in Costa Rica

USSEC consultant Jairo Amezquita visited Costa Rica to supervise the details for aquaculture feeding demonstrations that will be given in the next few weeks.  The objective of the feeding demonstrations is to evaluate the high inclusion of soy protein concentrate (SPC) in red snapper feeds.  Mr. Amezquita visited the aquaculture farm where the feeding demonstrations will take place to scout the facilities and discuss feeding protocol.  These feeds were manufactured by a local aqua feed mill.  Two diets will be tested, the first diet will contain SPC and the control diet will test the farm’s current feed.  Fish production parameters such as initial weight, initial biomass, percentage of survival, final weight and final biomass will be evaluated and compared between the two diets.

These feeding demonstrations are excellent opportunities to demonstrate the benefits of using U.S. soy in aqua feeds, helping to increase U.S. soy consumption in aquaculture.  The Costa Rican market for marine fish offers many opportunities for USSEC to further build the U.S. soy brand in aquaculture.
